St Estephe

7 July Sunday.Asturias to Saint Estephe

We finished packing before at 8 o’clock breakfast and then a last lesson at 8:45 . With  great sadness we said goodbye to La Peral, and set off towards France. It was a long eight hour journey to St  Estephe . But the weather was kind to us. The  scenery was not very interesting. We had a different little picnic in a  French aire once we got to  France.  We suffered from traffic round the Bordeaux Ring Road., as we always seem to do.

We arrived at the hotel Château Fleur du Roque at 6 pm, with a very nice room and bathroom.

Then we had a glass from a delicious bottle of the hotel’s own wine outside before discovering the swimming pool. So around 19:30 I had a very enjoyable swim, then a bath, then a really well cooked meal outside in the courtyard with lovely views.

We chatted to a group from Sweden then back to the room to hear the results of the French election: the country has succeeded in keeping out the far right but they are doomed to have a minority government.

Hotel Fleur de Roques

We stayed for one night at The Château Fleur de Roques and enjoyed our stay. The car park is just outside the main gate. Which is a good idea as the chateau is not blighted by parked cars

This small chateau produces its own wines, and we enjoyed a bottle in the area at the front of the chateau. Something about drinking a chateau's own wine at the chateau!

Our room was spacious, clean, and perfectly satisfactory (though the shower did not function properly)

We had dinner on a table outside at the front of the chateau and the food was excellent. The reception staff were charming, but the waiter was too keen to get rid of us after dinner (which was the only niggle I had)

8 July Monday St Estephe to the Somme

A pleasant do it yourself breakfast in the impressive dining room , the croissant was particularly fantastic. Then a short walk around the sides of the château before leaving at 9:10 am.
