Wednesday, October 8. Kalna
Progressing up the Ganges. An early breakfast and order show at 8:30 am at Kalna, we had a short tuk tuk ride to two wondrous Hindu temples to Shiva and Vishnu. These were most impressive with the concentric ring of 108 temples on the outside. The carvings were very impressive but many of them had disappeared.

After this we had a short walk round the local market: the high point of this was a cow in the middle of it!. The fish part of this market was very extensive, practically no ice, and we wondered where this multitude of fish had come from, considering the non-appetising appearance of the Ganges.

We were back aboard by 10:30 am and had the rest of the day on the boat at 4 pm there was a demonstration of Samosa cooking and of making Chai,: this passed an hour of our time but was not tremendously interesting. Happy hour as usual at 6 pm and then the briefing at 6:45 which we got them to do inside where there was less noise so comprehension was better. We got them to agree to provide us with a film the following night after supper.

After dinner we took our wine to the front of the ship and enjoyed the silence of the river.
