The morning was spent sailing up the Beagle channel towards the open sea and then we should have made a turn into the Garibaldi fjord. But the ship headed straight out into open waters for an extra 90 minutes before doing an about turn and backtracking to the Garibalsi fjord . We later found out that this was due to having to discharge "grey" water every 2 days, whcih had to be done outside the 3 mile Chilean territorial limit
After an early lunch we put all our extra layers on in preparation for a zodiac cruise to the Garibaldi Glacier; 5 minutes later that cruise was cancelled due to gusty winds- to us it looked calmer than the conditions the previous year in Svalbard where we were disembarked, plus luggage, in rotten weather!!. Anyway we sat out on the back deck for a while before listening to Mila speaking about Augustine, an Italian missionary who.came out here in the early 1900s. Afternoon tea.
Plan B then kicked in , and due to the failure of the Garibaldi zodiac cruise Plan B was to visit another fjord in the Agostini National park. At 5pm we arrived at the Pia East glacier, and not only did we get the promised zodiac cruise but were also able to land, and to walk over rocks to get very near to one side of the glacier. Saw some steamer ducks doing their spectacular take offs .
