Golden to Banff and back to Golden, British Columbia

En route golden t Lake Louise

Today was a round trip from Golden via Canada 1 to Banff and back by a different route. The road climbs via Field up through Yoho National Park, and a fine collection of British Columbia mirror lakes.

Kicking Hoorse Pass Lake Louse frozen

We passed over Kicking Horse Pass, of Canadian Pacific fame. More about the tunnels on the pass later, as we followed the same road the next day. We reached Lake Louse as we dropped down the eastern side of the watershed.

Lake Louise Emerald Lake frozen

Lake Louise and the nearby Moraine Lake were both still frozen from the winter, so one did not get the mirror reflections for which they are know. The day was a bit overcast, so the photos are not as spectacular as they should have been

Moraine Lake was pretty devoid of crowds, and we were alone here with the birds ...

radium hot springs bc

We returned via Radium Hot Springs. The hot springs complex itself contains two large pools, one with hot water for soaking (usually around the temperature of 39°C , the other swimming pool is usually around 29°C). My impression was that it was very seedy and run down, and we did not stay longer than was necessary to get a view of the place.
