Stephen was born in Switzerland in November 1973, and this was a holiday we had on the Canal du Midi soon after he was born
We picked up a hire boat at Castelnaudary and motored down to the Mediterranean at Sete, where we turned round and returned the boat back to Castelnaudary
Along the way we enjoyed the aqueducts, the cascade of locks at Beziers, the walled city of Carcassonne, and just admiring the sheer brilliance of the engineering that was able to construct the canal up and over the divide in France, and have a supply of water to replenish the locks as they functioned. Mind you the locks were all mauel which we (I) had to open and close by a handle and rachet
