I left Campbell in December 1963 after getting my place at Oxford. I went to Heidelberg for 3 months in Jan 1964, and return to Belfast to start this 3 month trip round Europe.
My companions were Philip Hamilton, John Nesbitt, Peter Reid and James Robbie. We all had Oxbridge entrance and therefore had the time to do this. Our transport was an Austin Westminster, which had been a RUC Police Car in its earlier incarnation. We had a specially built box to fit on the roof for camping equipment, and were limited for obious space reasons to a small suitcase each. .
